How the Age Calculator Works
The calculator finds the precise difference between two dates — your birth date and either today or a date you choose. It accounts for varying month lengths (28-31 days) and leap years to give you an accurate count in multiple units.

How to calculate age manually
If you ever need to calculate age without a calculator, here's the method:
- Subtract the birth year from the current year.
- If the current month/day is before the birth month/day, subtract 1 (your birthday hasn't happened yet this year).
- For months: count from the birth month to the current month, adjusting if the current day is before the birth day.
Example: Born March 15, 1990. Today is July 23, 2026. 2026 - 1990 = 36. July is after March, so no adjustment. Age = 36 years.
Tricky case: Born November 5, 1995. Today is July 23, 2026. 2026 - 1995 = 31. But July is before November, so subtract 1. Age = 30 years (turning 31 on November 5).

Example 1: How old am I?
Jessica was born on June 12, 1992. She wants to know her exact age today (July 23, 2026):
- 2026 - 1992 = 34 years
- July is after June, so her birthday has passed → no adjustment
- From June 12 to July 23 = 1 month and 11 days
- Result: 34 years, 1 month, 11 days
- Total days alive: approximately 12,460 days
Example 2: Age for a job application
Marcus needs to report his age in months for a pediatric study. He was born on September 3, 2023. Today is July 23, 2026:
- From September 2023 to July 2026 = 2 years and 10 months
- 2 × 12 + 10 = 34 months old
- Since July 23 is before September 3, he hasn't completed the full 10th month yet → 33 complete months
Example 3: How old was someone on a historical date?
Someone wants to know how old their grandmother was when she graduated college on May 15, 1975. She was born on March 22, 1953:
- 1975 - 1953 = 22 years
- May is after March → birthday has passed → no adjustment
- She was 22 years old at graduation
